I would add that you should absolutely oil the filter gasket when you replace it, as it can weather and crack in extreme cases, or if you live in an area with big temperature swings, simply seal itself to the block and become very difficult to remove. Also, when filling the car with new oil, take the engine oil cap and spread a little oil on the threads. It helps them stay lubricated and come out easier; important, because the cap is plastic.
