Displacement is the volume measurement of the combined cylinders. It is measured when the cylinders are in the downward position.

  • Engine displacement, the measure of the cylinder volume swept by all of the pistons from the engine which excludes the combustion chambers
  • It is commonly used as an expression of engine size and by extension as a loose indicator of the power an engine might be capable of generating and the amount it should be expected to consume.
  • The overall displacement for a reciprocating piston engine is calculated by the distance traveled by the piston or stroke length, the circular area of the cylinder and the number of cylinders in the whole engine
