Memory Settings

Memory Setting refers to a presetting that remains constant in the ECM unless disconnected from a power source. (I.E., the mirrors, seats, radio, and HVAC systems).

  • The keep-alive memory is volatile memory; Some of the data stored in it include the trouble codes of a failure that occurs in the system. The keep alive memory may also make changes in how the vehicle is operating. If the battery is disconnected, all information in the keep-alive memory is lost. After reconnecting the battery and starting the engine, a small current flows from the battery to the keep-alive memory. This is called the key-off current drain.
  • It may eventually discharge the battery unless the engine is started and the battery is charged.
