NOx

Nitrous oxide refers to a fairly inert oxide of nitrogen that has many uses as an oxidizer for rockets and car engines.

  • Nitrogen oxides (NO) are another product of high combustion temperatures in a running engine. High temperatures in the combustion chambers cause some of the nitrogen and oxygen to unite and form NO
  • Carbon Monoxide, gasoline, and nitrogen oxide are air pollutants. They pollute the air we breathe.
  • About 80 percent of the atmosphere is the gas nitrogen. The high temperatures in the engine cause some of the nitrogen to unite with oxygen. This forms the nitrogen oxides. Automobiles have antipollution devices called emission controls. These reduce the amount of the pollutant such as hydrocarbon, carbon ,monoxide and nitrogen oxide
