Acura Check Engine Light Troubleshooting

In this guide, you will find instructions on how to diagnose ACURA check engine light yourself. Check Engine Light (CEL) may also be referred to as Service Engine Soon (SES), malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). ACURA check engine light can turn on for something as simple as a missing or loose gas cap. CEL can also indicate a potential problem with an engine and even transmission. Instead of guessing what could be wrong, the best thing to do is to scan the fault codes (Diagnostic Trouble Codes / DTC) via the OBD2 port. 1. ACURA check engine light on

ACURA check engine light may turn on for various reasons. No need to panic if your ACURA check engine light is on. Make sure the engine is not overheating and the oil light are NOT on. Read the codes via the OBD2 port to find out why the light is on.

2. Read ACURA Fault Codes

To understand why ACURA check engine light is on, you need to read the codes. This is a simple procedure that you can perform yourself using a code reader.

What you will need


Step 1

Locate OBD-2 port under the dashboard on the driver's side. This is a 16-pin port. All 1996 and newer ACURA vehicles have this port under the dashboard.

Step 2

Scan codes ACURA model

Plug in your handheld scanner or Bluetooth adapter into the OBD2 port.

Step 3

How to diagnose ACURA check engine light service engine soon

Turn key to position II. All the dashboard lights will turn on. Do not start the vehicle. If your ACURA has Start/Stop button you will need to press the Start button without pressing the brakes.

Step 4

Check Engine Light On ACURA

Allow the OBD2 scanner to turn on and connect to your ACURA Engine Control Unit (ECU).

Step 5

Read ACURA check engine light codes from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) using your OBD2 scanner. Write down the codes and research the problem before you replace any parts.
