How to add windshield washer fluid to a Tesla Here we have a Model 3 but the procedure is the same for Model S and X.

If the windshield washer fluid on Tesla is low, a warning message displays on the touchscreen. To add windshield washer fluid to a Tesla, you will need to open the front trunk (frunk) and add the recommended windshield washer fluid.

How to add windshield washer fluid on a Tesla? 

Adding windshield washer fluid to a Tesla is very easy. Here is how to add windshield washer fluid to a Tesla. 

  1. Press the open hood to open the hood of the vehicle. Also known as frunk. open tesla front trunk frunk to add windshield washer fluid
  2. Go to the front of the vehicle, slide your hand under the hood and lift up the hood and ensure the hood stays up. tesla open hood

  4. Lift up the cap and add windshield washer fluid until the fluid is about two inches below the top. 
  5. Close the cap by pressing it down firmly. 

What type of windshield washer fluid does Tesla use? 

On a Tesla, you can use any brand washer fluid as long as it provides anti-freeze protection. Tesla does not recommend using washer fluids that have bug wash or water repellent additives because they can create marks or make the wipers noisy. 

Water can be used in case of an emergency in the summer months. Water should not be used in the winter months. 

Do not use engine antifreeze (coolant) as a substitute for windshield washer fluid. 

Only add windshield washer fluid to the dedicated reservoir for windshield washer fluid. A black cap and wiper symbol on top indicate a windshield washer fluid reservoir.  

Make sure to use a windshield washer fluid that meets your local government requirements.
