In this guide, you will learn how to replace the clock spring (spiral cable) and steering angle sensor on Nissan vehicles.

Symptoms

It is not uncommon for Nissan clock spring to fail to cause various problems. Some of the most common Nissan clock spring problems include.

  • Nissan Airbag Light On,
  • Horn Does Not Work,
  • Nissan Steering Wheel Buttons don't work,
  • SRS Fault Code: Driver squib circuit open or high resistance
  • Typical Codes: Code B1049 and B1054

What you will need

Procedure

  1. Park your Nissan and set the parking brake. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal.
  3. Remove Torx bolts on the side of the steering wheel. Once the bolts are loose or removed the airbag can be removed. You will need to use secure torx bit with a hole in the center.
  4. Unplug the wires from the back of the driver's airbag.  Watch video on how to remove Nissan airbag.
  5. Remove the center bolt that secures the Nissan steering wheel to the steering column. Mark the steering wheel and column before you remove the steering wheel. Remove steering wheel and spiral calbe on Nissan Qashaqi Note Versa Rouge Tiida D40 Titan Micra Almera Primera Altima Maxima Murano

  8. Next, you need to remove the clock spring which is held in place with several screws. Replace the clock spring if your Nissan horn does not work
  9. Unplug the wires from the clock spring.
  10. In this case, the clock spring and Nissan steering angle sensor are integrated together.
  11. Install new Nissan spiral cable/clock spring. The clock spring needs to be installed in the center position.
  12. Don't wind up the clockspring to the left or right. Clock spring has a limited number of turns. If you turn it all the way to one side, the ribbon can't take more steering wheel turns.
  13. This is a common mistake which causes the clock spring to fail shortly after installation.

Hi. I replaced the clock spring in my 2006 Nissan Murano. I didn't know there was a steering angle sensor attached to the old one that I threw away with the old part. So that meant I put the wrong steering angle sensor in with the new clock spring I got from eBay. I got the same symptoms as you. After a few hundred bucks I put in the right steering angle sensor in. I brought to a body job and recalibrated the sensor for me and it still has the same problems. They said I might need an alignment. How did you fix it? Please help!! Nothing is on the web about this

All functions now working well but I got lights on for BSA and VCD, I used OBD2 Scanner to remove all lights, now all lights removed but I got another problem that when I am driving and turn left or right with brake, the traction starting automatically and the can slow down quickly with voice in brake !!!
