How to Charge Air Conditioner BMW 5-Series 2004-2010

In this guide, you will find instructions on how to recharge the BMW 5-Series Air Conditioner (AC) with R134a refrigerant (freon).

This guide applies to 5-series from 2004 to 2010 applicable to models such as 525i, 530i, 535i, 545i, M5 520d 530d 535d. Follow the step-by-step instructions below and make sure to watch the how-to video as well.

If your BMW 5-Series blows hot air but no cold air, it may be an indication that the A/C system is low on refrigerant.

With the engine running, recharge the A/C system until the reading falls within the 45 and 55 psi. Make sure to follow the instructions on the back of the A/C recharge kit carefully.

  3. Start the engine while keeping the vehicle in the park. If your BMW has a keyless start feature with a START/STOP button, press START to start the engine. With the engine running turn on the air conditioner system on your car. Set the temperature to MIN and blower fan to MAX.   8. Charge A/C Once you reach the recommended pressure level stop adding refrigerant to your BMW 5-Series AC. Overcharging a BMW 5-Series A/C with refrigerant does not make the air blow any colder and can cause damage to the air conditioner system.
