If your Chevrolet battery light is on or your Chevrolet won't start or charge the problem could be due to a bad alternator, battery, poor ground connection, blown fuse, bad relay or even due to a parasitic draw. Chevrolet electrical issues can be tricky and challenging to figure out. The first step in troubleshooting Chevrolet battery problems is to check the charging system including the battery and alternator. This test can be performed by your Chevrolet dealer, auto mechanic or you if you have the right tool. How to check Chevrolet charging system

What you will need 

To perform Chevrolet charging system test yourself you will need a Charging System Analyzer.

Instructions

Step 1

Chevrolet  test dead battery

Park your Chevrolet on a safe area. Set the parking brakes and turn off the ignition.

Step 2

Pull the hood release under the dashboard and open the hood.

Step 3

Chevrolet  check alternator

Locate the battery. Newer Chevrolet have a plastic cover on top of the battery. If necessary remove the cover to access the positive and negative terminals of the battery.

Step 4

Chevrolet  Spark, Sonic, Bolt, Volt, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Corvette, City Express, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Sonic, Blazer, Astro, HHR, Uplander, Avalanche etc. charging system check

Connect the red clamp on the positive battery terminal.

Step 5

How to test battery, charger on Chevrolet  Spark, Sonic, Bolt, Volt, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Corvette, City Express, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Sonic, Blazer, Astro, HHR, Uplander, Avalanche etc.

Connect the negative clamp on the negative terminal.

Step 6

Perform battery and alternator test procedure.
