Problem

bad chip chrysler pcm moduleThis problem is caused by a defective chip in the powertrain controller. Once the chip fails, the powertrain module stops working causing the vehicle to not start or stall while driving.

The typical fix for this problem is to replace the PCM module. It is possible to troubleshoot the PCM and replace the failed chip, but this solution is less likely to be performed by your mechanic or dealer.

Instead, a new or used PCM module is typically installed.

Solution

Chrysler dealers will replace the powertrain control module, free of charge. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U87.

If your vehicle is not covered by the warranty, such as in the case of salvage vehicles you will need to replace the PCM module yourself and program it to your vehicle. A new or used Chrysler PCM Module can be purchased online.
