In this guide, you will find instructions on how to replace the battery on Hyundai Elantra.
The original OEM battery on a 2016 Hyundai Elantra has the following specifications: 120 RC, 610 Cold Cranking Amp (CA), 760 Cranking Amps (CCA), AGM 70L-DIN / 70 Ah 20 HR.
Follow these step-by-step instructions to learn how to replace the battery on a Hyundai Elantra.
Turn off the engine. Remove the key from the ignition. Engage your parking brakes.
Open the hood by pulling on the hood release lever located under the dashboard.
All Hyundai Elantra cars have the battery located in the engine bay. Note that some models have a plastic cover above the battery. This will need to be removed to access the battery.
Disconnect the battery cables. Use a socket and ratchet handle to loosen the 10 mm bolt on the negative (-) terminal. Near the negative battery post, you will notice a (-) minus symbol or the words NEG / NEGATIVE stamped on the battery. If the cable resists coming off the battery terminal, try twisting the clamp, then remove it. Next, repeat the process for the positive (+) terminal.
Remove the battery bracket. Locate the battery clamp. Remove the 12 mm bolt on the battery clamp. Use a socket and ratchet to remove this bolt. Place both the hold-down device and the bolts aside.
Remove old battery Take the battery out of the battery tray. Batteries are heavy, so grab from the bottom using both hands. If the battery has a handle, use that instead.
Clean battery terminal and clamp Before you reconnect the cables, clean the terminals using the battery post brush tool.
Next, connect the positive cable and fasten the terminal bolts. Now you can reconnect the positive battery cable. Last, connect the negative battery terminal and tighten the bolt. Ensure that all cable connections/ hold downs are properly tightened. Check the security of your battery by trying to move it back and forth.
The battery cables should not move or rotate on the terminals. If your car does not start, check the battery cables to ensure they are secured on the battery post.
