Mitsubishi Trunk Liftgate Won't Stay Up

Vehicle:   Mitsubishi

DIY Cost: $20-$50
Est. Time: 15 min

In this guide, you will learn how to replace the tailgate (trunk) struts on a Mitsubishi.

If you Mitsubishi trunk, liftgate, or hatch won't stay up or open, the chances are that the support struts are worn out and need to be replaced.

What you will need

Procedure

  1. Open the tailgate, and have a friend keep it open.  This is so it doesn't fall when you remove the struts.
  2. Pry off the covers on the top and bottom of the support struts and remove them, one side at a time.
  3. Install the new struts.  They snap right onto the little connectors.
  4. Test them to make sure that the trunk stays open.

Replacing the trunk supports on a Mitsubishi is very easy and can be completed in less than 15 minutes.
