Toyota Camry vehicle equipped with 2.5L, 4 cylinder A25A-FKS engine may run rough, turn on check engine light, emit excessive engine noise and exhaust smoke due to engine pistons that were manufactured larger than the specification.
Fault codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 may be present, and Low Engine, Oil Level warning may pop up on affected vehicles.
The oversized pistons were installed mainly in many Toyota Camry. The defective pistons were manufactured by Aisin Automotive Casting in Clinton, Tennessee.
Over 1700 Toyota Camry vehicles manufactured in Kentucky, produced from December 2017 to January 2018, have been identified to be affected by this problem. Vehicles with this problem have been sold in the US and other countries. The number can be larger, and Toyota owners should monitor these conditions as other engines may have out of spec pistons. According to Toyota, no Lexus or Scion models have been impacted.
The A25A-FKS engines manufactured in Japan are have not been affected. Find out where your Toyota is manufactured by looking at the VIN (black) sticker on the driver's door frame, which will have the country of manufacture.

If this problem is neglected, the engine could potentially seize, causing the engine to stall while driving. If the engine stops while driving, it will obviously increase the risk of a crash.
