How to unlock Volvo if remote isn't working or battery is dead
In this guide, you will find instructions on how to unlock Volvo door and get inside the car if your Volvo battery is dead or the key fob is not working. These instructions work on Volvo XC70, V70, S60, S40, V40, V50, XC60, XC90, S60, S70, S80, C30, and all other models.
The keyless entry feature on your Volvo is great for getting in and starting your car easily and hassle-free. But when your car battery dies, it makes getting into your car a whole lot harder. Unlike regular keys, your key fob won’t work if the battery isn’t charged.
Here’s the step-by-step process of how to unlock your Volvo when the battery is dead.
Remove emergency key from the keyfob
All Volvo key fobs have the emergency key inside that is used to unlock the driver’s door manually. For example if the car battery dies or the remote stops working. The first thing you need to do is remove the emergency key from the key fob.
The design varies slightly from model to model but the emergency key will be located inside the key fob. There will be a spring-loaded catch on the side that you slide to open the key fob and remove the emergency key.
Unlock driver's door
Next, on the driver’s door near the handle is a keyhole for the emergency key. It’s small and may be hidden behind the handle, so you may not even know it’s there. Once you find the keyhole, slide the emergency key in and turn it until you unlock the driver’s door.
Jump-start car (optional)
Now you can easily get inside the car. You may notice that the Volvo battery is dead. Even if your Volvo has the battery in the trunk, the jump starting terminals should be under the hood. Simply pull on the lever on the left-hand side of the steering wheel to open the hood and locate the Postive (+) terminal near the driver's strut tower.
If you find that your key fob isn’t working but you know that your car battery isn’t dead, this means that your key fob battery has died. This can happen occasionally and you can easily get a replacement battery for it at an affordable price.
Use the emergency key to unlock your car until you replace the key fob battery.
