Publishing Guidelines

We welcome experts, technicians, and mechanics to share DIYs, fixes, repairs, and diagnostics.

All posts must meet the following criteria. 

  • Expertise - You don’t have to be well known to be a contributor, but you must know a lot about the subject you’re writing about. 
  • Authenticity - We strive for authenticity in our articles. We don’t publish pieces that have appeared elsewhere or those that come across as promotional. 
  • Originality - Original, fresh content is required. Useful articles will frame a problem and provide a solution, or give a clear breakdown of how to fix the problem. Ingenious fixes are rare and precious — and one of the primary reasons readers visit YOUCANIC. 
  • Images - Authors are required to provide original photos within their articles. Please do not just pull images from Google.
  • Links - May be added for context or removed when not appropriate. If you want our readers to know more about you, add a bio in your profile with a link to your site. 
  • Author Bios - for individual and company contributors must be placed in the user profile and may not be included within the text of the post itself. If multiple authors wrote the post, it would be published under one name, and the other authors’ names may be included in a by-line at the bottom (no bio information or links may be included). 
  • Length - Articles should be at least 600 words.

We want to maintain a high standard of quality for submissions. These contribution guidelines are meant to help authors save time before writing and submitting work.

We retain final decision rights over headlines. Our editors have spent years learning which kinds of headlines give YOUCANIC pieces the best chance of being read, found online, and shared both on social media and around the world. If we rewrite your title, it’s because we believe the revised version will help your idea reach the audience it deserves. Content may be edited for style, tone, or substance.

While we encourage drawing from your own experiences, over-the-top self-promotion (of yourself or your company) will prevent us from publishing your article. The same goes for dense jargon and abstract, blanket assertions.
