BMW alarm may go off randomly for no apparent reason. The alarm will often get triggered when the car is parked and there is no one in or by the car. This problem can affect BMW 1, 3, 5, 7, X1, X3, X5 and other series. If your BMW alarm keeps going off the problem is often caused by a stuck or defective BMW hood switch but it may also be caused by any of the following.

A 2008 S550 Mercedes we were working on was completely dead. No interior lights were working. Key lock unlock would not work. We fully charged the starting battery but that still didn't fix the problem. The starting battery is located in the engine bay in the passenger side.

BMW transmission may get stuck in limp mode. When this happens it is called failsafe mode which is designed to protect the BMW transmission from being damaged. Often turning off the ignition and restarting the car will solve the problem. Unless a more serious problem exists and the BMW transmission goes into Emergency Mode 3 or 4.

BMW may not start in cold weather. This can affect all BMW including 1, 3, 5, 7, X1, X3, X5 series. Typical symptoms include the engine turning over slowly, then starting. You may be able to start the BMW by either cranking the engine several times or waiting until it gets warmer which is not the ideal solution.

When you start up a Mercedes-Benz and turn on the lights you may get an error message stating that Active Headlamps Inoperative. The error message may vary depending on the model. 

  • Active headlamps inoperative
  • Intel. Light system inoperative

When these errors are displayed on the instrument cluster, the owner may notice that the headlights may appear to work properly.
