Question Details

Recently, my fiance and I were on our way home from dinner when our car suddenly began making a sound which can only be described as some sort of soft material spinning and slapping something as it spun. Wherever the sound is originating from must be directly related to the throttle because the "spin" velocity and sound increases when the gas pedal is pressed. In addition to the sound, the car lost all power and shut off shortly after the spinning sound started.

When I connected an OBD, the car is showing the error code P0449 (Evaporative Emissions Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction). Not sure if there's any relation. If anyone has any ideas or advice, I would really appreciate it!

Does your Hyundai have the 2.4 Theta II engine? Because if it does, there is a major problem with metal shavings in the engine. There is a recall for this. Just search Hyundai Metal Shavings. You may be able to get the engine replaced for free. The code you provided is not related to the symptoms you describe.

How would I determine the specific version of the motor? It is a 2.4L.
