Hi there,

I have recently acquired a W211 2003 E500 (5.0L) and it has the Command EU system and phone etc... now as they would have been great over a decade ago it is still there, I want to install one of the Android head deck. I am confident to do all the work myself as I have done many in the past. However, I don't wish to buy one and then find that  I need additional Optic fibre converters and additional expense. I was hoping to know if they are simply, plug and play or not... As if they are not, I will get a Dension 500s BT instead and put up with the old interface. Can anyone let me know if they have had an experience with such things?

thank you in advance

Depends on the unit you get. If it has no fiber optic support (most don't) you will either need a converter box or you can bypass the stock amp and just use the speakers.

it definitely does, it has the command EU head unit. show in this link

Yes all W211 have fiber optic. I meant if the Android Hu that you buy supports fiber optic. I doubt that it will so look for a converter or install your own amplifier.

Let us know what route you go. If you do it yourself consider creating a post to document your project.

Would love to know what you find out. I have a CLS that I would like to upgrade to Android unit.
