Question Details

Looking at several used cars, I see some e350 or ml350 engines that fall into this suspected range for bad balancer shafts that are higher mileage between 100K - 160K. No record of any balancer shaft issues.

Does this mean that SOME M272 engines within that serial range may NOT have a bad part in them? Or did those people just get lucky?

Would it be unwise to buy one in that range with higher miles even if it pristine?

It possible to have over 150k miles and issues with the balance shaft. We have seen a few. But often you don't always know the whole history. With that said, I personally have seen some that were not supposed to be the range yet still throwing the codes for defective balance shaft. To answer your last question. Condition and how these cars were maintained is very important. But personally I would avoid any M272 M273 that falls in the problematic range. Currently looking for a CLS and R and if it affected, I pass on it. Hey, you can get a very good deal on the early models. :)

I know it has been a while, but were you able to find a solution to this?
