Can i run my bmw e60 with the scanner still plugged into the car

Okay.. so if you have OBD scanner that is only reading the DTC codes, then you should not leave it in. It might cause you a lot of problems.

However, if you have a plug-in OBD scanner that works with an app, it might be okay to leave it there, however, even in that case, you need to be very careful.  It is true however, that the scanner does not eat a lot of power and won't have a lot of effect on the battery.

Just make sure of two things if you are using a plug-in OBC

1. Make sure it is always getting enough power to run

2. Never drive the car when in diagnostic mode

I have used a scanner with the engine running never before had a problem.

Don't keep it plugged when the engine is off as it may drain the battery.
