I have just purchased the above for my BMW X1 and in the manual safety precautions it says 'turn ignition off before connecting the ES910' yet in the machine instructions it says 'turn ignition on and locate 16 pin data link connector' can someone please tell me which is correct.



It does not make a difference to be honest. Either way it will still turn on and communicate with the ECU. With that said, in general you plug in the scanner then turn on the ignition. But I have plugged in the scanner when the engine is on and also when it is running and to this date never had any problems.

The owners manual on the ES910 is very poorly written. I have used both the ES910 and Foxwell NT530 for BMW.
