MY CLK 99 DOES NOT SHOW ITS HOT , WE HAVE REPLACED THERMOSTAT AND EGR AND FLUSHED THE RADIATOR BUT WHEN DRIVING IT WILL WITHOUT ANY OVERHEATING ON GAUGE JUST SHUT OFF AS IF YOU TURNED THE KEY OFF.  iT WILL NOT START AGAIN UNTIL A COUPLE HOURS OR MINUTES .  FAN WAS ONLY BLOWING ONCE OR TWICE AND THE ARM REST AREA FEELS REALLY HOT TO THE TOUCH.   WHAT IS CAUSING IT TO SHUT OFF SO SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS BECASUE IT'S LEFT ME IN SOME REALLY DANGEROUS SETTINGS ON FREEWAY OFF RAMPS WITH NO SHOULDER AT NIGHT.....NO CODES COME UP AT THE SHOP COULD IT BE AS SIMPLE AS FAN FUSE NOT WORIKING AND OR CATALYTIC CONVERTER GETTING HOT????PLEASE HELP ME

In my idea, it would be best to change the crankshaft and test the car for a few days.

This is not an uncommon problem and many people I know have faced it. One guy in my garage came with the same problem. We tried a scanner but we were not able to pinpoint the issue.

However, long story short, we tried a number of things but finally the replacement of crankshaft worked!
