2002 E430, went into limp mode and no gear was showing on the dash
checked 13 pin connector it was dry no sign of oil leak.
transmission oil is on full
I fitted a used Floor shifter , the dash now displays the gear but none of the gears engage.
What is next please ?
Just ordered a iCarsoft MBII for Mercedes Benz/Sprinter/Smart Professional Diagnostic Tool Scanner
for good measure.

Your transmission operation is part mechanical / part electronics. I think you have the electronics part figured out. The problem here is the mechanical part. Did you connect the shifter rod to the shifter module properly. That rubber O ring is a paint to get in. Are you sure it didn't come off? Your transmission should at least bang when placed in gear and get stuck in limp mode. Because it is not doing that I think the rod that goes to the transmission and connects with the shifter is the problem. It is either not connected or needs adjustment. It has a set screw that allows you to adjust it. Try this. Move the shifter in positions between Drive and Neutral. or Neutral and Reverse. Does it bang into gear? If it does, you need to adjust the rod. If it doesn't, the rod may not be connected at all.

Can I check the rod assembly without taking the shifter off again. to see if that's moving ? I'm 99% sure that the shifter connection went on right. there is no gear engaged from the shifter going Neutral to Drive or reverse, no clunks at all.

I've had the car a month, ( I love it) I haven't touched the valve body not sure to the history of the car, other than its been well maintained, one owner, But it is over 200k miles.

Yes you can inspect the rod without taking off the shifter. Get the car up on ramps or drive one side on a curb. Get under the car and inspect with the flash light. You need to look under the shifter.

Hi ,
The connection is good under the shifter, the rod is still connected to the transmission, there is a leak at this connection. The rod and shifter are operating to this point.
