Question

Top view of a motor is shown, with the a sensor circled.2001C200 Kompressor - makes a grinding noise for a brief period of acceleration or deceleration, lasting about a second.

This noise is not present when the sensor on top of motor (see picture) is unplugged.

Any idea what the problem could be? Mechanic mentioned a broken Camshaft Phaser.

Thanks for any help!

That's the cam sensor on top of the valve cover. If unplugging it fixes the noise you have, then your problem is probably the bad cam phaser, but you should also check the oil to make sure its not low, and have your mechanic check the serpentine belt pulleys, because a bad pulley can make a similar noise.
