my key fob died. I replaced the batteties and fob works great, however the car won't start now. I don't know if this problem is related to the battery change or not. there was a red light (icon) that appeared on the far left side of the dashboard however I am unaware what it alerting me to. I checked all possible fluids, they're fine. can you tell me why I cannot get the car to start?

Do you have a second key you can try?  There is a chance the they may have been damaged while you replaced the battery. While the key can unlock the car the transponder that is used to start can be bad.

Also do you hear a click or anything?

and the key fab is less than a year old, purchased it from dealership when my keys were lost, it shouldnt have gone out I dot think .... maybe old batteries?

The start part of the key is independent of the door  unlock feature. One can fail and the other feature can still work.
