Sunroof insulation

2 weeks after purchasing this 2011 ML350 from a car dealer (Autonation), this cardboard insulation sounded jammed in the sunroof and came out as the sunroof was being closed. I then pulled the entire board out. I’ve had it out for 5 months now. No problems. But I still have been wondering how important is this insulation board? I live in Miami, FL, so I use the sunroof often, and it also rains often. Am I ok without it?

Is that the part that you slide in and out?

If it is, there should be no problem with removing it as long as you are OK with not being able to completely block the sun.

No, it was another part. That slide in/out cover with the handle is still intact. It’s made of somewhat thin cardboard. Everything works fine, but it has a part number so I figured it might be important.

Just looked up the part number. That's for noise reduction. You may hear a little more wind noise from the sunroof but other than that, you should not have any issues. Hope this helps.
