Ran my Ml 320 Mercedes dry .after filling with Gerry cans started no problem drove home on to my drive only 100 yards away yes so close ! Following day came to start the old girl up , ran like a pig on steroids , roughly misfiring and not responding to the gas pedal  and stalling when drive engaged . Is it a case of resetting something ? Or a case of damage to fuel pump !

How much fuel did you add? I would say put at least a few gallons of premium gasoline and see how it runs.

As far as resetting there is nothing to reset. It would be an odd coincidence if the fuel pump failed at the same time

Yes added about five gallons uk so there should be no fuel shortage low level light has extinguished

Hi MBF ignition on all lights presented on start up and running all lights are extinguished ! No warning ⚠️ what so ever

Those cars are very sensitive and have enough sensors to triger the CEL as soon as some parameter is out of range. With that said, I would check the operation of the accelerator pedal. On the ML is is partially cable then it goes to the throttle accelerator pedal position sensor. Which could be your issue in this case.

If you have a professional scanner you could test the old part before replacing it, which is what I would recommed.
