Hi  I have a vw golf convertible. It’s been in a shed for nearly 10 months. Just got it out,I put new battery on as old one died. I tried to put softop down,I can hear motor running, but that’s it! Is there anything I could check myself?

Check the fluid level for the convertible top. Your top should be hydraulic and if it leaked any fluid it wont operate.

MBFanatic,Thankyou,I will have a look for that now, silly question, but it is in the boot😟?

Can I use any hydraulic fluid?or does it have to be specific to the car?

In most European cars you can use Pentosin Hydraulic Fluid CHF11S

Just to be safe check your owners manual.

The reservoir is near the motor in the trunk.

I’ve checked the fluid,it on minimum! Have also checked there is nothing stopping the roof folding in! Is there anything else I can do?

Start by topping off the convertible top fluid level.

If the problem persists there are a few small microswitches any one of them could be bad.
