I use to have Overheating in my Mercedes Benz c280 1996 during a hold up. What do I do?
First it might be Thermostat problem or water pump problem, do you have coolant leak ?
I don't have leak n I recently change water pump.
When you car is Overheating do you hear cooling fan ?
My fan is working
If I remember correctly your car has a viscous fan. The fan clutch may have worn out. Even though it may turn the fan, it doesn't turn fast enough which leads to the overheating issue.
Last option you should change head gasket of your block engine, when the head gasket is damaged since the car has more than 2 decades, your car it can not cool itself and engine temperature goes up even if thermostat, fan, sensor,water-pump and other thing are good, temperature will go up.
Tnx I 'll surely try that
Try flushing the cooling system as well, there might be a clogged passage somewhere or an air bubble that got trapped in the system because it wasn't bled properly. If it's leaking coolant, it could also be a head gasket, but you don't want to replace those unless you really have to.
Overheating is a very common problem for some owner with same model, well to start there are few things to check.
Radiator fan, you might want to observe the fan speed, cooling fan has high speed and low speed. You may observe this while putting your car in idle. If high speed and low speed is not a problem you can proceed with the next step.
Thermostat failure, it happens because they become weak, either stuck open or stuck closed. In your case it could be that it is stuck closed, circulation of the coolant is blocked and coolant cannot get to the radiator to be cooled which causes the engine to overheat.
If your thermostat is okay, this could be the best time for you to have your radiator serviced or replaced. Well to save some dollar before going to have it serviced, you can try running a radiator flush.
You mentioned earlier that water pump was replaced recently, one of the reasons could be is a corrosion in the cooling system which could go to your radiator and possible clogged it.
Hope this helps.
