Question Details

I recently wanted to purchase an better OBDII reader after a couple of transmission codes came out and went into hard limp mode. I was thinking about getting the Carsoft 7.4 MCU K-Line Controlled Multiplexer Interface For Mercedes-Benz, but I would like to know if it would be able to erase TCU codes. I saw comments about the Autel MD802 and Creeder VIII where the W210 is not supported.

Carsoft multiplexer will work but make sure it comes with the 38 pin connector.

You can not read transmission codes from the obd2 port even if the scanner supports that.

You will have to use the 38 pin round port on the engine bay.

I ordered the Carsoft 7.4 from China and even saw a review on the W210. I believe I have narrowed it down to conductor plate and transmission solenoid replacement. According to sources, when you replace those items, you will need someone to help your vehicle relearn to shift in the ECU? Would this program be able to resolve this issue or will I need to go to a Benz specialist for to reprogram it?

What you need to do is reset it the shift points and I belive that scanner will allow you to do it. But it has been a while since I used it so I could be wrong. If it does not, you can reset it by pressing the accelerator pedal for 30 seconds.

More of that here: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/reset-mercedes-benz-transmission-procedure-instructions/

There is one thing I wonder about though. Is your can not shifting at all now? When you look at the clock do you P, N, R D next to it?

My car can shift into P N R D, but the (+) & (-) for shifting does not go to 1,2,3, or 4. After I had some hard shifting where going from P to R feels rough and stuck in the hard idle mode, I'm still waiting for the scanner to come in from China. I received solenoids, but waiting for my conductor plate to arrive to begin the project.

When you look at the instrument cluster (clock) do you see the gear on the small screen ? P R N D

Opps forgot to answer the question. Yes, I do see the gear selection on the instrument cluster. I based my reprogramming theory on comments I saw on the parts I was buying. A couple of them said similar things along the lines of “works great after getting reprogrammed at the shop”, so I assumed it needed reprogramming if conductor plate is removed and replaced.

Replacing the conductor plate on the 5 speed transmission which is what you have is a lot easier than the 7 speed. Programming the new conductor plate is not required. If everything goes fine, your car should shift fine. The only thing that you can do is reset the shift points mentioned earlier.

Can you take a few pictures when you do this job and share with us? Maybe even post a DIY if you got the time.

I could try my best. I ran into a bump on the road though. whoever serviced my transmission before frayed one screw and it’s frozen. I read online to use PB blaster then hammer in a larger torx size. Even add heat to assist in loosening it. I bought a rotary tool to try to cut a slit in the screw but i’m A tad scared i’ll Cut my tranny pan.

Update: Conducted the service but car still stuck in limp mode. I will be attempting to use the OBD II scanner later in the next few days  and possibly return with good news.

Clear the codes from the transmission control module. Then test drive to see if it is out of limp mode.. If still in limp mode, read the codes again.

Thanks, I will be trying it soon. It will be connector to vehicle and connector to computer right? I’m a bit confused about the 3 prong cord that i’ve seen videos of people using a pop out board? I won’t be needing that to clear my codes right?

I kept running into problems trying to install on Windows 10. I was lucky to find mom’s old netbook with Windows XP. This might be a dumb question, but you want to have the car fully on when using the 38 pin plug in right?

You have to ignition on or car running. Either one is fine.

I’m going to try diagnostics, but would I be able to swap the BAS/ESP with a used one? I saw forums where BAS/ESP and BAS are the ones the modules can find easily. I’m thinking maybe the ECU went bad, but I would need to go to dealership to make it work with my vehicle?
