2018 Toyota Camry Oversized Piston Engine Problem 2.5L A25A-FKS engine
Updated Monday Apr 02, 2018
2018 Toyota Camry with 2.5L, 4 cylinder A25A-FKS engine may run rough, turn on check engine light, emit excessive engine noise, exhaust smoke, have fault codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and show Low Engine Oil Level warning.
Under these conditions Toyota Camry owners many notice poor throttle response and reduction of power. If this problem is neglected the engine could potentially seize causing the engine to stop while driving. If the engine stops while driving it can increase the risk of a crash.
This problem can be caused by engine pistons that were produced larger than the specification. The oversized pistons where installed in 2018 Toyota Camry. The defective pistons were manufactured by Aisin Automotive Casting in Clinton Tennessee. The A25A-FKS is being manufactured in Japan and the Toyota Camry with Japanese engines (also sold in the US) are believed to not have been affected.
Over 1700 Toyota Camry vehicles manufactured in Kentucky, [“TMMK”] produced from December 2017 to January 2018 have been identified to be affected by this problem. Vehicles with this problem have been sold in the US and other countries. The number can be larger and Toyota owners should monitor these conditions as it is possible that other engines may have out of spec pistons. According to Toyota, no Lexus or Scion models have been impacted.
