A BMW may not start, asking for the input of code on the instrument cluster. This problem can happen you change the battery, change the cluster or any other time that you have the battery disconnected for a long time.

Solution

Follow this procedure to deactivate the CODE feature in your BMW.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal for five minutes.
  2. Reconnect the battery.
  3. Turn ignition to position one. Do not turn on the ignition (position II).
  4. Wait 10 minutes. A timer shows up on your cluster.
  5. Try starting the car after the timer has finished.

If you changed the cluster it will need to be coded by the BMW dealer or an auto mechanic specializing on BMW.
