This guide provides procedures on how to change brake pads and rotors on Mazda 5. These instructions apply to model years 2010 through 2018.

  1. Park the Mazda 5 on a level surface. Engage the parking brakes and make sure the shifter is in Park.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on your Mazda using the lug nut wrench. Use a breaker bar if necessary to get the lug nuts loose. Do not remove them yet. remove wheel to change brake pads on Mazda 5
  3. Jack up the car and remove the front tire. Support the vehicle with jack stands. Do not rely on the car jack only. 
  4. Next, you will need to remove caliper bolts. First, you will need to remove the black plastic cap. Use a flat screwdriver to remove the caps. Inside you will see two Allen head bolts.remove two caliper bolts to get Mazda5 brake pads off 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017
  5. Remove the caliper retainer by praying it out using a screwdriver.
  6. Push the piston back into the caliper. Pistons need to be pushed back into the caliper in order to accommodate the new rotor and brake pad.
  7. Remove caliper 17mm bracket bolts. A breaker bar will help to get these two bolts loose. 
  8. Once the two bolts are removed, the caliper bracket can be removed as well. 
  9. Remove the set screws from the rotor. remove rotor front brake pads from Mazda 5 front 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018
  10. Remove the rotor from the wheel hub. 
  11. Clean any dirt or rust from the wheel hub, then install a new rotor.replace rotors mazda 5

  13. Apply grease to the back of brake pads, guide pins, and shimsapply brake grease to mazda 5 brake pads
  14. Reinstall new brake pads. Reinstall the brake caliper bolts and torque to 25 ft/lb.
