What you will need

Procedure

  1. Open the trunk by pulling the trunk release on the left side of the driver's footwell.
  2. Remove the eight push clips on the door trunk shield. Use a flat screwdriver to pull the push clips out.The location of the eight push clips on the door trunk shield.

     

  3. Pop out the handle on the trunk shield by pulling it using a pick tool.Pulling the handle on the trunk shield out.

     

  4. Remove the two screws inside the handle by turning them counterclockwise using a Philips screwdriver.Removing the screws inside the door handle of the trunk.

     

  5. Pull the trunk shield out of the vehicle.Removing the trunk shield of the Kia Forte.

     

  6. Detach the trunk latch's cable from the tab by pulling it out.Removing the cable out from the tab attached to it.

     

  7. Pull the cable out from the trunk latch.Pulling the cable out from the trunk latch.

     

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector of the trunk latch by pressing the clip and pulling the connector out.Disconnecting the electrical connector of the trunk latch.

     

  9. To remove the trunk latch, remove the two 10mm bolts holding the trunk latch by turning them counterclockwise using a 10mm socket.Removing the 10mm bolt holding the trunk latch.

  10. Line up the new trunk latch into the vehicle and reinstall the two 10mm bolts by turning them clockwise using a 10mm socket.Installing the new trunk latch of the Kia Forte.

     

  11. Reconnect the electrical connector for the trunk latch.Reconnecting the electrical connector of the Trunk Latch.

     

  12. Line up the cable into the trunk latch and press it into the tab to set it into place.Attaching the cable into the trunk latch of the Kia Forte.

  13. Reinstall the door trunk shield. Line up the trunk shield back to the vehicle and reinstall the screws inside the handle.Reinstalling the trunk shield back to the vehicle.
