Fix Kia Hood that Won't Stay Up Open

If the hood on your Kia shuts close when you open it or won't stay open for very long, the problem is due to weak hood strut supports. This tutorial shows you how to fix this problem by replacing the hood supports. 

What you will need

• Flat screwdriver
• Hydraulic hood strut support
• Two people

Procedure

1. Pull the hood release under the dashboard.

    

2. Unlock the hood latch and pull the hood up.
3. Before removing the hood strut, let someone hold the hood or put any material that can support the hood up.

    

4. Remove the hood strut, insert the screwdriver into the clip connected to the hood and use the screwdriver to pull the clip out of the hood.
5. Remove also the tab connected to the frame using the same procedure.

    

   
6. Line up the tabs of the new hood strut to the hood and frame.

    

7. Push the hood strut to the frame and hood to lock the clip of the hood strut to the vehicle.
