One of the symptoms of a defective ABS module is the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) light turning on. The ABS module has ESC integrated, which helps stabilize your car while cornering and avoids skidding during hard braking.

The pictures in this tutorial are from a 2016 Kia Optima. Still, owners of other Kia models such as Forte, Forte5, Rio, Sorento, Soul, Sportage, Rondo, Sedona, Borrego will find these DIY instructions helpful.

What you will need

  1. Disconnect battery. Open the hood of your vehicle and disconnect the battery.
  2. Locate the ABS Module / ESC Control Module. This Kia Optima is located in the engine bay, passenger side, near the firewall. Regardless of the Kia model, the ABS pump can be found in the engine bay. diy kia abs esc control unit removal

  5. Do not allow brake fluid to fall on your car's exterior paint as it causes damage to your car.
