Procedure
- Park vehicle on level ground.
- Turn off the engine, remove the key from ignition, place transmission in Park. Set the parking brakes.
- Wait 10 minutes for the engine oil to return to the oil pan. This will allow you to get an accurate measurement.
- Open the hood by pulling the hood release under the dashboard and unlocking the hood latch on the vehicle's front.
- Locate the oil dipstick on the passenger side behind the engine cover and pull it out.
- Use a clean cloth to wipe the oil from the tip of the dipstick. Note the min and max marks on the indicator of the dipstick.
- Fully reinsert the dipstick into the engine, then pull it out again.
- Determine the current engine oil level.
- If the level is between the min and max marks, the oil level is correct. If the level is below the min mark, you will need to add engine oil to bring the level to the recommended range. If the level is above the MAX mark, you need to remove some oil.
- If the oil level is low, remove the oil cap at the top of the engine by turning it counterclockwise.
- Add one quart (or one litter) of the recommended engine oil, then recheck the oil level. Use a funnel to avoid oil spills.
- Continue adding oil, no more than one quart at a time, until the oil level is in the recommended range. Do not overfill the engine with oil past the MAX oil mark level.
