Step-by-step procedures on how to replace the engine air filter of the Mercedes Benz SL500, S500, and other models equipped with the V8 M113 installed on many models from 1998-2006.

Procedure

  1. Open the hood. Pull the hood release under the dashboard and go to the front of the vehicle. Then unlock the hood latch and pull the hood up.Opened hood of the Mercedes Benz SL500.
  2. Remove the front cover of the engine. Pull the front cover up to unlock the tabs on it and remove it by moving it backward.Removing the front cover of the engine.Removing the front cover of the engine.
  3. Remove the hose connected to the air filter by simply pulling it out to where it is attached. There will be two hoses that need to be removed.Remove the hose connected to the air filterRemove the hose connected to the air filter
  4. Remove the air filter housing out of the engine by pulling it up.Removing the whole cover of the engine.Removing the whole cover of the engine.
  5.  Once the air filter housing is removed, turn the housing on the opposite side and locate the T25 screws on the air filter housing.Turning the air filter housing on the opposite side.
  6. Remove the T25 screws on both sides of the air filter housing. Use a Torx screwdriver to remove them; there will be a total of 8 T25 screws that must be removed.Removing the T25 screws on the air filter housing.
  7. Press on the center housing of the air filter and pull the cover to where the air filter lies.Removing the air filter of the Mercedes Benz SL500.

  9. Put the air filter back to the housing and reinstall the T25 screws.Reinstalling the T25 screws back to the air filter housing.
  10. Align the air filter housing to the rubber grommets on the engine and push the housing in to lock it to its place.Reinstalling the air filter housing back to the engine.
