Step-by-step procedure on how to replace the B camshaft position actuator on a 2012-2017 Toyota Camry XV50. Fault code P0013 with a faulty sensor, the check engine light will come on, and the vehicle may have poor acceleration.

Check engine light may turn on and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0013 may get stored in the ECU of a Toyota. P0013 means “Exhaust “B” Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit/Open (Bank 1).

This fault code relates to the variable valve timing (VVT)—also known as variable camshaft timing. A faulty Camshaft Position Actuator B can trigger code P0013.

Procedure

  1. Unlock the vehicle and open the driver's door.Opening the driver's door.

     

  2. Get the OBD II Scanner and connect it to the OBD II port under the dashboard.Connecting the OBD II scanner to the vehicle.

  9. Locate the camshaft position actuator B on the left side of the first ignition coil (passenger side of the engine)The camshaft position actuator of the Toyota Camry 2012.

     

  10. Disconnect the electrical connector of the camshaft position actuator by squeezing the connector and pulling it out.Disconnecting the connector of the camshaft actuator B

  13. Line up the new camshaft position actuator and push it in to set it into place.Installing the new camshaft position actuator.

  15. Reconnect the electrical connector of the camshaft actuator by pushing it back to place.Reconnecting the electrical connector of the camshaft position actuator B.

     

  16. Line up the engine cover back to the vehicle and push it to lock into place.Reinstalling the cover of the engine.

     

  17. Go back to the diagnostics menu and erase the code. Check the stored codes if there are still codes to be fixed.Erasing the code on the scanner.

  18. Start the vehicle a few times and check if the check engine light is still on.Starting the vehicle to check the check engine light.
