Foxwell NT201 Scanner Review
Foxwell NT201 is a Level 1 OBD-II scanner that is very simple and easy to use. It allows you to read and clear the Check Engine Light (CEL). It also allows you to check the emission readiness status which can be very helpful if you are trying to determine if your vehicle is ready for a state emission test.
Once the scanner was plugged into the OBD-II port located under the dashboard on the driver's side, it only took a few seconds to determine the protocol and connect to the ECU. If you are having a hard time connecting the scanner to the car, make sure the ignition is turned on.
To start reading fault codes select OBDII/EOBD and press enter.
At the next screen, you can choose if you want to READ CODES or CLEAR CEL.
Check for fault codes under all three options: Current, Permanent and Pending.
If a fault exists you will get a code and descriptions.
You can go back and chose Erase Codes to clear the fault codes. Other important features of this scanner include checking readiness status and viewing Freeze Frame data.
Check Emission Readiness
Press the I/M button on the scanner will take you right emission readiness screen. You can also select I/M readiness form the main menu.
- N/A means your vehicle doesn't have that system installed
- OK means system has been tested and has passed the test
- INC means the system has not been tested yet.
To pass a state emission test you need all OK (except the N/A). Some states may allow you to pass with one incomplete. This screen can be used to show if the check engine light was cleared or erased. If several of these items show as INC it means check engine light was recently reset.
