If your BMW 5-Series blows hot air but no cold air, it may be an indication that the A/C system is low on refrigerant.
What you will need
Procedure
- Start the engine and let it idle.
-
Ensure your vehicle is in park.
-
Start the engine while keeping the vehicle in the park if your BMW has a keyless start feature with a START/STOP button, press START to start the engine. With the engine running, turn on the air conditioner system on your car. Set the temperature to MIN and the blower fan to MAX. Make sure the A/C button is pressed or is switched ON.
-
Pull the hood release under the dashboard. Secure the hood in the up position. Ensure the hood does not fall on you while you are charging your BMW 5-Series with refrigerant.
-
Locate the low-pressure air conditioner charging port. Remove the cap from the A/C charging port.
-
Connect the a/c recharge kit to the low-pressure line. With the engine running, take a reading and ensure the refrigerant pressure is in the low zone.
-
Connect the A/C recharge kit start the car. With the A/C recharge kit connected, read the gauge. Continue to the next if the A/C pressure reading is low.
-
Charge A/C Once you reach the recommended pressure level, stop adding refrigerant to your BMW 5-Series AC. Overcharging a BMW 5-Series A/C with refrigerant does not make the air blow any colder and can cause damage to the air conditioner system.
