Brake Light/Clearance Light Bulb Replacement Guide Mazda 3 2013-2018

Procedure

  1. Unlock the vehicle and open the trunk by pulling the trunk release under the dashboard.The trunk release of the 2016 Mazda 3.

  2. Remove the two push clips on the trunk shield behind the outer tail light assembly. Use a flat screwdriver or fastener removal tool to pull the push clips out.The push pins holding the trunk shield.

     

  3. Pull the trunk shield panel down to have access to the socket and the electrical connector of the brake light and clearance light. The bulb is a double-element bulb type.Pulling the trunk shield down to have access to the connectors and bolts on the outer tail light assembly.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connector by pushing the clip and pulling the connector out.Disconnecting the electrical connectors of the outer tail light assembly.

     

  5. Twist the socket counterclockwise and pull it out to remove it from the tail light assembly.Twisting the socket to remove it from the tail light assembly.

  6. Remove the light bulb by pulling it out from the socket.Removing the light bulb from the socket.

     

  7. Install the new light bulb to the socket and push it in until it snaps into place.Installing the brake light and clearance light bulb.

     

  8. Line up the socket back to the tail light assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.Installing the socket back to the tail light assembly.

     

  9. Reconnect the electrical connector by pushing it into the socket's connection port.Reconnecting the electrical connector of the brake light and clearance light.

     

  10. Place the trunk shield to its original orientation and reinstall its push clips.Placing the trunk door shield back to its original orientation 3.

  11. Check the new light bulb by switching on the brake and clearance light.

Notes

  • Do not touch light bulbs with bare hands as that can shorten the life of the light bulb. 
  • Installing LED bulbs:
    • If you are upgrading to LED light bulbs, and the bulb doesn't turn on when you install it simply remove the LED bulb and rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall it. 
    • Certain vehicles may trigger a fault message stating faulty or burned light bulb when the original bulb has been upgraded to LED. If that is the case, use halogen bulb or get an Error Free LED bulb
