The rear ABS sensor has a different part number from the front and therefore is not interchangeable. The left and right ABS sensors are the same and can be switched without any issue.

Procedure

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat-level ground surface.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts of the front wheel using a breaker bar.
  3. Jack up the vehicle's front and support it with jack stands.
  4. Remove the wheel from the vehicle.
  5. Locate the wheel speed sensor on the back of the rotor.
  6. Remove the 8mm bolt on the sensor using an 8mm socket wrench or 8mm nut driver. Spraying penetrating oil can make removal easier. Removing the 8mm bolt on the wheel speed sensor.

  14. Place the wheel back to the vehicle and reinstall the lug nuts. Torque the lug nuts to spec.
  15. Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel full left and right a couple of times then drive for about five minutes and ensure the ABS and traction control light reset.

If the tracking control light and ABS remain on after you replace the faulty ABS sensor, you will have to read the fault codes again from the ABS module to find out what other codes are still present.

Tips

  • ABS light may still be on when you restart the car. Driving for a few minutes should reset the ABS and traction control light if no other issues are present.
  • Read codes with an ABS scanner to find out which sensor needs to be replaced. You don't need to replace all four sensors as in most cases only one fails.
  • If the old ABS sensor will not come out easily, spray penetrating oil, wait 10 minutes then remove the sensor using pliers.
