What you will need

Procedure

  1. Unlock the vehicle and open the front passenger door.Opening the front passenger door.

  3. Pry out the cover on the right side of the glove box using a fastener remover or prying tool.Removing the cover using a prying tool.

     

     

  4. Pry out the plastic trim above the glove box using a fastener remover or prying tool.Removing the plastic trim above the glove box.

  5. Remove the two 7mm bolts located above the glove box. Use a 7mm nut driver or 7mm wrench to remove the bolt.Removing the 7mm bolts above the glove box.

  6. Remove the two 7mm bolts located below the glove box.
  7. Pull the whole glove out of the vehicle.Removing the glove box of the Ford Fusion.

  8. Disconnect the connector of the glove box by pressing the clip and pulling the connector out.Disconnecting the electrical connector of the glove box.

     

  9. Remove the two screws on both sides of the cabin air filter cover using a Philips screwdriver.The two screws on the cabin air filter housing.

     

  10. Push the tabs on both sides and pull the cover down.Pushing the tabs on both sides of the cover.

  12. Remove the dirt on the cabin air filter housing using a vacuum.The cabin air filter housing.

     

  13. Place the new cabin air filter and make sure that you install it is in the proper orientation.
  14. Close the cabin air filter cover by pushing it until the tabs snap into place.

     

  15. Reinstall the two screws on both sides of the cabin air filter cover.
  16. Reconnect the connector of the glove box.Reconnecting the electrical connector of the glove box.

     

  17. Line up the glove box back to the vehicle and push it to lock it into place.Reinstalling the glove box of the Ford Fusion.

     

  18. Reinstall the two 7mm bolts above and below the glove box.Reinstalling the 7mm bolt above the glove box.

  19. Line up the plastic trim back to the vehicle and press it in to set it into place.Reinstalling the plastic trim above the glove box.

     

  20. Line up the cover on the right side of the glove box and push it in to lock the tabs back to the vehicle.Reinstalling the cover on the right side of the glove box.

That's it. Replacing the cabin air filter on a Ford Fusion is more involved than in most cars but overall this repair is easy. 

Recommended Interval 

  • Replace the cabin air filter once a year.
