GM Lower Rear Suspension Link Replacement

Contents

In this guide, you will find instructions on how to change the rear lower suspension link (control arm) on 2017 and newer GM SUVs vehicles including Buick, Cadillac and Cadillac (see application section below).

This suspension link was poorly designed and can get easily bent on the earlier models. GM has redesigned this part, therefore we recommend getting the latest part instead and not installing a used part which could be the early version.

Symptoms

  • Suspension noise
  • The vehicle pulls to one side.
  • Premature tire wear
  • Vibration while passing over humps

What you will need

  • Jack
  • Jack/car stands

  • Socket wrench
  • Combination wrench

Procedure

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and loosen the lug nuts.
  2. Place the jack at the jacking point and lift the car to the extent that the heels are free to turn.  Secure the car with a jack stand before removing the wheels.
  3. Remove all wheel bolts put wheel guide to prevent scratches on rims and remove the wheels.
  4. Mark one side of the lower suspension before removing it (the marking provides a reference later for installing the new one ).
  5. Remove the bolt that secures the lower suspension link to the rear suspension knuckle.
  6. Remove the bolt that secures the lower suspension link to the frame.
  7. Install the new lower suspension, check the marking for which side it should be installed.
