How to jump start Chevrolet vehicles

In this guide, you will find instructions on how to jump-start a Chevrolet vehicle. There are two ways to jump-start a Chevrolet. You can use another car to jump-start a dead Chevrolet battery or use a jump box. In this guide, you will find instructions on how to jump-start a Chevrolet using both these methods.

Turn off the ignition

Remove key from the ignition. Modern cars are very sensitive to voltage and Chevrolet is no exception. To avoid electrical problems, start by removing the key from the ignition. If you are not able to unlock the doors with the remote, remove the metal key from the key fob and use it to unlock the driver's door.

Open Hood

Open the hood. Locate the hood release underneath the dash. Pull the lever until you hear the hood pop open. Next, you need to release the hood safety latch at the front of the hood.

 

Locate Battery

Locate the terinals where you can jump start your Chevrolet .

Connect Positive

When jump-starting a Chevrolet use the jump starting terminal if your car has one. This would be the dedicated positive post with a red cap on top, as shown in the picture. If there is a jump starting terminal you should use battery positive post. Connect the red clamp from your jumper cables or jump starter to the positive (+) terminal.

Connect Negative Cable

Next, you need to connect the negative jumper cable (black clamp). Here is one place where you can connect to the negative terminal. A bolt on the strut tower or any bare metal can also be used to connect the negative cable (-).

Jump Start your Chevrolet

Now you are almost ready to jump-start your car. If you are using a jump box, you simply need to make sure it is turned on. The other option is to jump start your Chevrolet with the help of another car. Connect the jumper cables to the helper car. Red clamp goes on the red battery termnial. Black clamp goes on the negative battery terminal of the helper car. Start the helper car and let it idle for a couple of minutes.

Start Engine

Start the engine. If the car won't start the first time, check the clamps to make sure they are making good contact. If your Chevrolet refuses to start, let the jumper cables connected for at least 10 minutes and try again.

Low Battery 

A low battery warning may display on the instrument cluster when you first start the car.
