Common Causes

Mazda can get stuck in the park for various reasons, including:

If your Mazda gets stuck in the park intermittently, one of the most common issues causing this problem is the shifter interlock solenoid.

The brake switch could also be causing intermittent problems where your shifter gets stuck in the park.

Lastly, the shifter assembly itself could be the problem. The shifter may need to be replaced.

At Mazda dealerships, a new shifter can cost anywhere from $500-$800. A cheaper alternative would be to install a used or aftermarket Mazda shifter assembly.

My 2007 Mazda CX 7 2.3 Turbo model does not have a slot near the shifter for a screwdriver. I therefore cannot release the shifter out of park using this method. Any alternatives?
