The problem is most likely due to your Acura key fob, which may have a dead battery and cannot send a signal to your car. Another possibility is that you have a dead car battery.

Follow these steps to manually get inside and start your Acura (if the key doesn't work or the battery is dead).

  1. Remove the metal key blade from the key fob. Press on the black release tab, hold the release down, and slide out the metal acura door locked
  2. Insert the metal blade into the keyhole of the driver's door. manually unlock acura door to get inside
  3. Turn the key to unlock the driver's door. Once the door is unlocked, remove the key and open the driver's door. Watch the following video on how to perform these steps.

If the car doesn't start right away, allow the battery to charge for a few minutes, then try again.

Also, check the clamps on the battery terminal. If they aren't making good contact, the Acura will make a clicking noise when trying to start the engine.

Regardless of the problem you are facing, these instructions will help owners of Acura TL, CL, RL, TSX, RDS, ILX, TLX, RLX, MDX, ZDX learn how to get into the car in case of an emergency.

Thanks for sharing. Helped me a lot.

This is a helpful guide. Most of us forget how vulnerable we can be if the battery dies and we don't know how to use a FOB properly. I know people who have spent upwards of a $100 simply because they did not have a guide like this. The more important thing is what to do once you are inside the car. Our suggestion is to ALWAYS be prepared for a new battery. While poor circuits can cause issue, the most likely issue is always an old battery that has gone through it's life. If you have had your car for more than 5 years, it might also be a good time to change your FOB battery. It can last up to 8-10 years, but again, you don't want to be in a situation where the FOB stops working.

Owner of a 2016 Acura TLX. Car battery is completely dead. We are unable to unlock the driver side door using the manual key pulled out of the FOB.When we call the dealership, we are being told  that it is because this function requires power?! So we cannot unlock the door to open the hood to check the battery of the car, and are ultimately locked out. Is this really the case that there is no manual latch for the driver door for them to fix?

I think my lock channel is malfunctioning so I can’t unlock with my key and battery is dead. This is why I can’t get into my car. How else could I get into my Acura TL (2011)? Thank you!!
