How to Replace Sway Bar Link Toyota Camry 2012-2017

Step-by-step procedure on how to replace the sway bar link on a Toyota. These procedures are based on a 2012-2017 Camry but also apply to other models.

Procedure

  1. Park the vehicle on safe level ground and loosen the lug nuts on the wheel.
  2. Jack up the vehicle, support the vehicle with a jack stand and remove the wheel.Removing the wheel of the vehicle.

     

  3. Locate the sway bar link on the vehicle's suspension.The sway bar link of the Toyota Camry 2012.

     

  4. Remove the 17mm nut on the top and bottom of the sway bar link using a 17mm wrench and turning it counterclockwise. Use a 19mm wrench or plier to hold the bolt and prevent it from spinning.Removing the bolt on the sway bar link.

  5. Remove the sway bar link from the vehicle.Removing the sway bar link.

     

  6. Get the new sway bar link and line it up to the vehicle.Installing the new sway bar link of the Toyota Camry 2012-2017.

     

  7. Install the 17mm nuts on the top and bottom of the sway bar link.  Use a 17mm wrench and twist the nut clockwise to tighten.Installing the bolts back to the sway bar link.

    Repeat procedure for the lower sway bar link.

  8. Carry the wheel back to the vehicle and reinstall its lug nuts.
  9. Lower the vehicle on the ground. 

Torque Specifications

  • Sway Bar Link:  74 N·m (55 ft·lbf)
  • Front Wheel: 103 N·m
  • Stabilizer bar bracket: 19 N·m (14 ft·lbf) (Not shown on this tutorial. For information only.)
