FWB
📖 YOUCANIC Automotive Glossary
FWB (Front Wheel Bearing) allows the front wheel to rotate freely while supporting the vehicle’s weight and withstanding cornering and braking forces. In modern vehicles, the front bearing is integrated into a sealed hub assembly that bolts to the steering knuckle and typically includes the ABS wheel speed sensor or tone ring. Front bearings endure higher stress than rear bearings due to steering forces and weight transfer during braking.
Worn front wheel bearing symptoms: humming/growling noise that changes with vehicle speed (not RPM), noise that increases during turns in one direction (loading the worn bearing), steering wheel vibration, and ABS/traction warning lights from erratic speed sensor signals. Check by jacking up the wheel and rocking at 12/6 o’clock — any play indicates replacement. Always replace with a torque-spec-tightened new mounting bolt.
